What makes enterprise software different?

Enterprise software operates inside a larger business environment. It may need to support multiple roles, business units, data sources, security policies and existing applications while remaining reliable and maintainable. The engineering challenge is therefore as much about integration, governance and long-term change as it is about building the application itself.

Can you build around our existing systems?

Yes. Existing systems are often part of the solution rather than something to remove. We assess the current applications, APIs, data, dependencies and ownership before defining the new architecture. The result may involve integration, selective replacement, modernisation or new services around the existing estate.

Should we replace our legacy system or modernise it?

It depends on what the existing system is preventing the business from doing. If its core business logic remains valuable, incremental modernisation may reduce risk and preserve that knowledge. A replacement becomes more compelling when the architecture, technology or operating constraints make meaningful change disproportionately expensive.

How do you handle enterprise integrations?

We treat integrations as part of the architecture. That means defining ownership of data, API contracts, authentication, failure handling, retries, monitoring and versioning before the connections multiply. Where appropriate, asynchronous processing, queues or event-driven patterns can keep external dependencies from making the core application fragile.

How do you stop customisation becoming unmanageable?

We separate configuration from product logic wherever the requirements justify it. Customer-specific workflows, permissions or integrations can often be handled through controlled configuration rather than separate code paths. The goal is to give the business the flexibility it needs without turning every customer or department into a different version of the product.

Can you introduce AI into enterprise applications?

Yes. AI can support knowledge retrieval, document processing, decision support, workflow automation, assistants and agents. Enterprise AI also requires careful control over data access, permissions, evaluation, auditability and human approval. We design the AI capability as part of the application and its surrounding technology environment.

How do you approach enterprise software security?

Security starts with the architecture and continues through development and operations. Depending on the environment, this can include identity integration, role-based access, encryption, secrets management, audit trails, API security, logging and controlled infrastructure access. Requirements should reflect the sensitivity and business criticality of the system rather than follow a generic checklist.

Can you work with our internal technology team?

Yes. SDTC can work alongside an existing engineering organisation or take responsibility for a defined technology initiative. The model depends on the client's capabilities and ownership structure. The important part is maintaining shared product and architectural context so external and internal teams are making decisions against the same business objectives.
