Medical E-commerce
Building a sales channel the business could own
A US medical equipment reseller needed a modern storefront that could reduce marketplace dependence, support direct sales, and synchronise inventory with eBay. SDTC Digital built the storefront, checkout, operations platform, and bidirectional inventory engine.
- Website and eBay
- 2 channels
- Inventory sync target
- Under 5 minutes
- Reconciliation sweep
- Every 30 minutes
- Customer data and store
- Full ownership
Project overview
Clear Choice Medical generated approximately $1.4 million in annual revenue and ten daily orders, primarily through eBay. Its fifteen-year-old website was no longer functional, leaving the business dependent on a marketplace charging around 20% per sale.
SDTC Digital built a modern storefront connected to the existing eBay operation. Products, prices, descriptions, and quantities synchronise across both channels, while reconciliation protects against inventory drift.
The website also supports eligible products restricted by eBay, direct customer relationships, checkout, reporting, and administration. The result is an owned sales channel without disrupting the marketplace revenue already supporting the business.

The challenges
- 01The business depended almost entirely on eBay and paid marketplace fees on each sale.
- 02Certain products eligible for direct sale could not be listed under eBay's marketplace policies.
- 03Customer relationships and contact data remained with the marketplace.
- 04A temporary Wix integration was synchronising operations but was not designed as a long-term system.
- 05Two sales channels needed to share inventory without selling the final unit twice.
- 06Staff lacked central tools for managing products, orders, customers, and sales reporting.

Project goals
The medical equipment reseller needed a platform that could:
- Launch a fully owned and professionally branded online storefront.
- Reduce structural dependence on eBay as the primary sales channel.
- Synchronise inventory, pricing, and product information across both channels.
- Support direct sales for eligible products that could not be listed on eBay.
- Build a first-party customer and email database.
- Give staff central administration, reporting, and order-management tools.
What we built
SDTC Digital developed a complete direct-commerce platform connected to the company's existing eBay store.
Modern storefront and checkout
Customers browse, search, filter, and purchase products through guest or account-based checkout with live shipping, tax, and Stripe payments.
Customer accounts and direct relationships
Accounts, order history, and guest linking create seamless experiences while helping the business build its customer database.
Bidirectional eBay synchronisation
Product listings, prices, descriptions, and quantities synchronise continuously between the website and eBay.
Inventory protection and recovery
Event tracking, oversell detection, refunds, notifications, and reconciliation protect inventory across both sales channels.
Administration and reporting
Staff manage products, orders, customers, refunds, stock, and performance reporting through one central administration panel.
Great to work with. He will learn about your company/business first and know what your company actually needs. I worked with others who followed a book, or directly jumped into the work. But what works for one does not work for someone else and that's why its important to know your business before you start building your apps. Thanks Sean. Amazing work.

Browse the catalogue
The customer searches or filters products and opens a detailed product page.
Complete the purchase
The customer checks out as a guest or registered user with shipping, tax, and payment calculated.
Update shared inventory
The completed order triggers an inventory update across the website and eBay.
Reconcile channel data
Scheduled checks identify and correct inventory differences between the two systems.
Manage the operation
Staff process orders, update products, review customers, issue refunds, and monitor sales through the admin portal.
The Thinking Behind the Platform
- 01Bidirectional inventory: Kept website and eBay quantities aligned after sales on either channel.
- 02Replay-safe processing: Recorded sync events before processing to prevent silent loss or duplicate handling.
- 03Automated recovery: Detected oversells, initiated refunds, and notified affected customers.
- 04Scheduled reconciliation: Added a 30-minute safety check alongside event-based synchronisation.
- 05First-party ownership: Enabled restricted products while retaining storefront, customer, catalogue, and reporting control.

Outcomes and Business Impact
- A fully owned sales channel alongside the established eBay operation, enabling direct selling for eligible products that marketplace policies restrict.
- Bidirectional inventory updates keep stock in sync across website and eBay; the platform's highest-risk feature, real-time sync between the two live channels, shipped with only 3 confirmed defects across the full 545-case test suite, including 9 dedicated end-to-end sync scenarios built specifically to break it.
- First-party customer accounts, order history, and contact data.
- Central administration and reporting for products, orders, customers, and sales.
- Of the test cases fully assessed to date, 116 passed against just 3 confirmed defects, a 97.5% pass rate across catalogue, checkout, payments, sync, and admin.
- The platform was engineered against a commercial target from day one: a foundation for reaching 20% of orders moving direct and capturing 500 customer emails, owned outright, within six months.
